From the back, Major Bessiker could have been almost any Imperial Officer, but his demeanor upon turning around and greeting her was vastly different from what she was used to. Imperial Officers were taught to be many things: respectful, efficient, utterly competent. Cheerful, so far as Ibani knew, was not anywhere on the list.

"Ah, who's this.....Sith! We don't often get Sith on Balmorra. It's a real pleasure." Ibani wondered where in the Empire he was from. 'Sith' was an appropriate greeting, but not one that was in common use. His accent wasn't pure Dromund Kaas, perhaps he was from the edge of the Empire? "I have a son on Korriban you know," he added proudly.

That stopped all thoughts of Major Bessiker's origins. For the first time in a long time Ibani wondered just how much non-Sith are told about Sith training. He was so terribly proud, so happy that his son is training to be a Sith. Bessiker couldn't know that even if he was fortunate beyond all hope his son would have to distance himself from his father for both their sakes. He couldn't know that the boy he knew was likely dead, shaped into something monstrous. "Congratulations, Major," Ibani replied, speaking the socially expected lie without so much as a quiver in her voice to show the falseness of the words.

"It's a tough war you're walking into - we're fixing blasters with adhesive tape -- but we'll help you any way we can. It was a blown open vault you're looking for, yes? " Bessiker asked before turning to another officer. "Captain Ilun, do we still have those pumps?"

Captain Ilun shifted slightly, his expression one of someone pondering how to deliver bad news. "Sir, if this is the vault I think it is -- it won't be that easy. Even if we ignore the difficulty of getting the pumps inside the Balmorran Arms Factory complex to the vault, the fumes from that kind of toxic waste are sufficient by themselves to put men in the medical center for days."

Ibani repressed the urge to swear. "And if you're fixing blasters with adhesive tape, I'm quite certain you don't have any droids that could be spared for such a task."

"No, my Lord," the Captain replied, swallowing.

Bessiker spoke up, possibly trying to draw her attention away from his subordinate. "Then we must make this pit less deadly. Something must be able to survive in there!"

"Well, the colicoids eat it sir, but they're not exactly...tractable."

Ibani smiled bitterly, the sight hidden by her helmet. "So, how do I become a colicoid?"

"Sir!" Ilun blurted out, shocked.

"No, Captain, she's right," Bessiker replied. "To get to the bottom of that pit, she'll need to become like the colicoids. The beasts were made by the Balmorrans, weren't they?"

"Well, yes," Ilun replied, uncertain. "We don't know exactly where they were made, but there's a research lab not far from here that was overrun with the things as soon as the Balmorrans abandoned it. We lost two squads when we tried to scout the place."

"Capital!" Bessiker replied, smiling, his cheerful demeanor showing again. He turned to Ibani. "Sith, if you can get into that lab and find out the secret behind those creatures, we'll do what we can to get you into that toxic pit and back out again safely."

"Sir," Ilun protested, "even if we find out what causes this resistance, we don't have -"

Major Bessiker spoke right over Ilun, cutting him off. "We'll worry about that later. Right now, our Sith friend has to get into that lab and find out what the Balmorrans did to those creatures."

Worry about what later, she wondered as she headed toward the research lab. Is there something worse in her future than raiding a lab infested with giant insectoid creatures each capable of taking on a squad of soldiers?
