Au: Kid Ibani-Tatooine Era Obi-Wan Kenobi

(OOC: Content warning for mention of torture, harm done by and to children, suicidal ideation and quite possibly suicide attempt.)
Ibani is a fourteen year old Sith Acolyte and her life of pain is written in her body for those who can read it. The scars of a slave collar on her neck, the letters and numbers carved under one eye like a bantha brand, those were only the beginning. She's been shocked regularly with force lightning for years as well as being subjected to more primitive methods of torture, and all have left their mark. Scars from teeth, claws and blades mark her skin, the echoes of broken bones still visible if you look the right way in the Force.
She should be dead, and she might be shortly, despite her struggles. She doesn't know how she got HERE, wherever this hot desert is, instead of the cold desert of Korriban. The gravity is wrong, the temperature is wrong, and while the Force shouted just before she landed here it is strangely silent now. (She might be insane, in which case she should put herself down before she harms anyone, but she's waiting for more evidence on that one way or the other.) She's dying by inches of heat and thirst and she can't push her body any further, even with all the Force tricks she knows.
She crawls on her belly under an overhang of rock, collapses. She can enter a trance, reduce her need for water, but that means that without help she will simply fail to ever wake, will slip away into the Force in death. It's a long shot, but she's worth more alive than dead even to the most nefarious of persons. (She knows better than to expect mercy or kindness from strangers.)
Ibani sinks into the Force, awaiting aid or death.

Date: 2020-09-27 05:54 pm (UTC)"Because you're not broken," he says as he approaches.
"Because I've let too many people die." Tens of thousands of his fellow Jedi. Millions of clones. Billions of innocents caught in the middle of a war that the entire Galaxy lost.
"Because," as he gets closer her reaches out a hand to her shoulder, pulls her to him, "you have the chance for new life now. You have the chance for hope, and I am not going to let you throw that away."

Date: 2020-09-27 06:03 pm (UTC)She can feel that he means it, every word, and those words slam again and again into the shields and walls she's built around her heart. The walls crumble and she sobs, a harsh, broken, sound, years of pain and anguish finally given an outlet.
She clings to him like a lifeline or like a child might cling to their parent.

Date: 2020-09-27 07:06 pm (UTC)He does eventually push her away enough to take her sword arm into his hands, and gently start cleaning it - using the physical Force to push the sand out and his own life Force to accelerate her healing, where the krayt and the sword between them have done some damage.

Date: 2020-09-27 07:09 pm (UTC)Ben doesn't have a lot of life energy to waste!
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 07:16 pm (UTC)"Too late," he says, and smiles. "All finished. You can save your energy for now."
He uses a thumb to wipe a tear away from her cheek, and starts to rise with some effort. "Are you ready to go home or do you have something else needlessly dramatic to get up to?"

Date: 2020-09-27 07:22 pm (UTC)Ben calling his house home, her home, makes her heart hurt, but in a good way. "No more dramatics, I promise," she says. "Though I'd rather not leave my sword here. I don't have a lightsaber, though I have the crystal for one. Found it not long before I got flung here."
Being unarmed makes her edgy, okay? Even if with the Force she's not exactly helpless.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 07:27 pm (UTC)Then he nods. "It's over here, come on."
As they walk over to the spot, he continues: "We can see about making your lightsaber later, I think. But we're going to have to be very careful about training. It's vitally important no one finds you here."

Date: 2020-09-27 07:31 pm (UTC)Ibani reaches down for the blade with the Force. "I suspected as much. What with there being no Jedi anymore," she says, solemn. And she's sure that's a very ugly story indeed.
"I have experience with hiding my capabilities, thankfully. I won't thank my former so called instructors for that, but it may come in useful, now."

Date: 2020-09-27 07:38 pm (UTC)And those few Jedi left can also never know where Obi-Wan Kenobi is. They would never let him stay if they did.
"Of course," he adds, "this is assuming you want to train. If you'd rather just learn to moisture farm we can do that too."
He looks around at the sand flats around them. It's not going to be the easiest journey home.

Date: 2020-09-27 07:44 pm (UTC)"I've managed alright so far," he remarks back to her.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 07:48 pm (UTC)And she suspects he's underweight, after that hug.
"And I'd rather you did better than 'manage', honestly. I DO know how wide the divide is between managing to stay alive and 'in fighting shape' is," she quips.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 07:57 pm (UTC)"I'm afraid there won't be any fighting, with me," he says. "If you stay, training is all I can offer."
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 08:03 pm (UTC)He's hiding, after all, and fighting is likely to draw attention he neither needs nor can afford.
"I would prefer not to loose what I have of the forms, even if there won't be fighting, but I can work on that on my own, if need be."

Date: 2020-09-27 08:06 pm (UTC)He climbs onto the dragon's back, sitting just behind the head, and they lumber over to Ibani, where he offers her a hand.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 08:10 pm (UTC)She eyes the sun. "I'm sure I'll get used to it."
She takes the offered hand after stowing her sword, and climbs up onto the dragon.
"Time to go home," and Ibani has never said those words before. Nowhere has ever been HOME, just places where she's lived or slept.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 08:13 pm (UTC)He leans forward to pet the dragon on the head, and it breaks out into an elegant gallop, heading back towards Ben's homestead.

Date: 2020-09-27 08:16 pm (UTC)"Who should we say I am to you, if anyone asks? I could pass for your daughter, wouldn't even be a lie if you adopted me in the old ways, well, my culture's old ways."

Date: 2020-09-27 08:27 pm (UTC)"We'd need to explain why you showed up so late in life," he remarks thoughtfully. "Living with your mother off world?"

Date: 2020-09-27 08:37 pm (UTC)"How does one perform this ritual?"
...Is he really considering this? He must be going senile.

Date: 2020-09-27 08:41 pm (UTC)"The Ancient Sith used to swear oaths that way, and I've seen rumors suggesting that it actually had some binding power, but nothing concrete. If it MADE people obey, presumably it would have still been in use, and it wasn't."
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 08:46 pm (UTC)He's aware that he's already part way to making this oath in his heart, given how responsible he feels for her.
no subject
Date: 2020-09-27 08:52 pm (UTC)"I've never had a father before," she says. "Well, I mean, biologically I must have, but I have no recollection of my birth parents at all."

Date: 2020-09-28 07:10 am (UTC)Not for long enough, though. Just as he filled a role for other people, not long enough or well enough.
He's remind quite how bad a job he made of it last time, but with no alternative in sight, he'll have to just it better this time. At least he won't have the Jedi Council in his way.
"We'll have to work out what it means together."
