Leverage Cassian AU: Summer Trip - Yukon

Before school starts, they decide that a trip somewhere nice and remote can serve multiple purposes. Swimming lessons, survival training, and a place where Ibani can REALLY show Cassian what she can do without fear of witnesses!

The Yukon seemed like a good fit, so that's where they've landed.

"This time of year, he's usually off climbing somewhere so it was open. Be careful, Ash, there are creatures out there that can eat you,"

Alaska has bears and wolves who would happily eat Ash up.

"Cassian's right, Ash, be careful," Ibani tells the dog. She reaches out to the Force. "I don't feel anything Ash's size that's close and hungry, but better safe than sorry!"

She helps Cassian unload the supplies and get them into the cabin. "And no chasing anything you don't recognize! You do NOT want to bite a porcupine!"

"Or a beaver, their tails can hurt, there's a fence where he can run and we'll take him for long hikes with us,"

Since there's so much to explore all around them, "Have you ever gone fishing?"

"I haven't, no," Ibani replies. "There wasn't enough liquid water on Ilum to make fish a possible food source, and Korriban was a desert so there was hardly any water at all."

"Used to scrape lichen off the rocks on Ilum, if we found a place where there was warmth enough for the ice to melt and allow it to grow."

He sighs at that and gestures to the fishing gear in the cabin, "I'll teach you how along with swimming and we can catch our dinner."

Ibani probably misinterprets the reason for his sigh. "That sounds good! I'm sure I can pick it up quickly!"

With anyone else, she's be nervous about them seeing her scars, but she's not afraid that Cassian is going to be repulsed by what she looks like. "Swimsuit under my clothes, maybe?" she suggests.

"Of course you will, its not that hard and the Force will probably help you find the fish. Yes, that will be best but we won't swim until tomorrow. Too late today to get into the water," And he wants to make sure she's completely comfortable when swimming and has allowed time for it.

"I could probably call them to me too," Ibani remarks. "Not exactly FAIR, messing with them like that, but useful in an emergency."

"They fed us, on Korriban, so I never had reason to try and get food that way." She'll take his word on it being too late to swim today, as he's the one with experience!

"You can test it out, the lakes and streams here are full of fish. I was thinking that we could take a walk around to get to know the property before dinner."

"That's a good idea," Ibani replies, hugging Cassian. "Safer to know the territory in advance. We could take Ash with us, on a leash."

"That's what I was thinking," As they head out, he checks the sky, which is looking clear for the moment.

Ash barks excitedly on the leash as they head out. Ibani also looks up at the sky, though she's listening to the Force as well.

"No rain today, maybe tomorrow night," she muses out loud. "Nothing sapient except for us in range of my senses either."

"The weather can change quickly here," He points over to the mountains in the distance, "They tend to bring the weather in."

"Because they change the airflow, get in the way?"

Ibani seldom knows the 'WHY' of what she senses with the Force.

"Yes, mountains are always dangerous to fly around and over because of that," It takes skill and a lot of years to safely fly over mountains. As they head out, Cassian makes his way to a basic path that goes around the lake which has a small dock.

"There's so much LIFE around the lake," Ibani tells him, voice quiet but leaning in so he can hear. "In it, too," she adds, gaze going a little distant. "Wary of us, not used to people like at home."

She openly stops and stares at the lake. "I've never seen so much water in one place before, not up close."

"While we're here, you'll be able to explore it all you want and then later there's a beautiful river nearby with water that's always in motion," This is what he was hoping she'd feel like here, this kind of joy.

Joy is definitely the word, as she smiles and laughs at the site of a heron gulping down a fish that is almost too big for it!

She crouches on the dock, sticks her fingers in the water. Perhaps a minute later, there are fish swarming around her hand. "It tickles when they mouth at my fingers," she giggles.

"There are some places where a whole beauty routine, mainly for the tourists is having fish nibble your feet."

[last_kallig]

"Really?"

"Tourists can be really weird," she announces after a moment more of thought to Cassian. She lets the fish go and they scatter, the way their instincts direct them to.

"Yes, they can be," They continue around the path then leave the lake and go through a meadow to reach a quickly flowing river with a small bridge over it.

Ibani trails her fingers through the wildflowers. "So many different shapes and colors!"

Ibani leans over the bridge railing to look down at the river. "The water moves fast here, not a good place to swim?"

"I know, everything's in bloom. No, this river isn't safe for swimming or much boating either. The lake's safer." They might later even find some berries for baking.

Ibani stops abruptly. "We don't want to go that way," she says quietly, pointing in the direction of an area that has some blackberry bushes. "There's something large there, omnivorous, it's found food in there that it's eating, sweet." A black bear has found some berry bushes and is happily munching away!

Cassian frowns and watches how the bushes move, "No, we'll leave the bear to their snack and go back."
