Leverage Cassian AU: Summer Trip - Yukon

Before school starts, they decide that a trip somewhere nice and remote can serve multiple purposes. Swimming lessons, survival training, and a place where Ibani can REALLY show Cassian what she can do without fear of witnesses!

The Yukon seemed like a good fit, so that's where they've landed.

"Chopping and prepping the cheese while I get the leftover chicken ready," He shows her what he needs done.

"Sure!"

Ibani is quite confident with a knife in her hand. Other aspects of cooking she's a little shakier on.

Ibani works on the cheese. "No, Ash. Cheese is not good for you," she tells the dog, who is looking up hopefully at her from his spot on the floor.

"Once this is in the oven, then he can have his dinner," It shouldn't take long since there's not a lot of prep.

It doesn't take long, especially with the two of them working on dinner.

Ibani's glad to get Ash his dinner. "Here you go, Ash."

"Should we make something to go with them while the enchiladas are in the oven?"

"Yes, what do you want? You know what we brought," And he wants her to have all the choices she can.

[last_kallig]

"Um," Ibani has a brief moment of choice paralysis. She's still getting used to choices. "The spinach, with lots of garlic."

"For vampire protection," she jests.

[childofrebellion]

He laughs and gets the spinach out, "You prepare the garlic and then I'll do the spinach."

[last_kallig]

"Sure!" It's not that hard to smash the cloves, then peel them. Some of it she chops up fine, others get cut into big slices. "I'll put the little pieces in toward the end, so they don't burn." Burnt garlic does not taste good, at all!

"I'll have the oil at the perfect temperature for it," Cassian starts cooking down the large bag of spinach.

[last_kallig]

"I'm still amazed at how much you have when you start compared to how much there is at the end!"

There are so many things to consider with fresh food as opposed to ration bars!

"At least it still tastes good when you cook it, unlike the lettuce." Ibani cooked down some lettuce once, thinking it would be like spinach. It was not!

"Spinach is impressive that way," He smiles as he stirs, "Not all vegetables are better with cooking."

[last_kallig]

"It's complicated," Ibani replies. "I never realized HOW complicated. Probably even worse when you've got multiple different planets with different produce."

"When did you start learning to cook?"

[childofrebellion]

"When I was a boy. Everyone was busy working and I realized that I could help and learned recipes from my family and anyone who would teach me. Then it turned out to be satisfying to make food and see people enjoy it,"

Which is why he still likes doing it, in another life, he might have been a chef.

[last_kallig]

"That sounds like you," Ibani tells him, smiling. "I wish I could have met your family." She's not sure if any of them are still alive, she knows his father isn't.

She starts cleaning up the tools she used for chopping garlic, because who wants to do a giant pile of dishes after dinner?

"I wish you could too, but you've met people who I consider my family," Since they're the ones that he has left.

[last_kallig]

She reaches out to put a hand on his arm. "I'm glad that I've met them. I wish you could have met Ma'Vena, I think you would have gotten on with her."

Ibani puts the bigger pieces of garlic into the spinach.

"I do too. I would want meet anyone who cares for you," He lowers the heat and starts getting the garlic that perfect golden brown color.

[last_kallig]

"I'd like to meet anyone who cares for you too! Maybe I'll meet all your friends, one of these days." Although an encounter with Elliot might prompt some questions, given that Ibani didn't learn her fighting styles or the way she moves anywhere on Earth.

"You will, but I don't want to overwhelm you," And there's time.

[last_kallig]

"I'm getting better, with people," she says. "I'm not sure why most people are so LOUD in the Force with their emotions."

[childofrebellion]

"Probably because they're not aware that's a space that you can be loud in."

[last_kallig]

"Maybe, but you were a lot quieter than that, even when I first met you," she points out. "You're not as quiet as a trained Force sensitive, but you're a lot quieter than most people."

[childofrebellion]

Cassian shrugs, "I guess its something I learned to do for my work."

[last_kallig]

"Could be, or you're naturally quieter, or both."

It's time to add the tiny pieces of garlic in to cook, so she does.

"There are things I don't know how to explain sometimes," she says. "I could let you see what the Force feels like to ME, but I doubt you want me in your head."

"That was an uncomfortable experience but that's okay. I'll understand what I can," The garlic doesn't take long to cook and he gets the spinach off the stove.
